June 2023: Homecoming King Joe Frederick, Retirement Plan Advisor with Capital Planning Wealth Management, father, grandfather

PW Class of 1982: What do you do now for work? And what has your career path been?

Joe Fredrick: I am a Retirement Plan Advisor with Capital Planning Wealth Management. I provide guidance and advice to individuals and businesses regarding managing and investing funds in a 401(k) plan. As a co-fiduciary to the plan, I assist with the plan design, investment selection, and monitoring to help ensure the plan meets the needs of the participants and regulatory requirements. In addition, I spend a significant amount of time working with plan participants. This is an important part of my service model since employees are responsible for saving and investing for retirement with no required assistance: www.capital-planning.com.

PW Class of 1982: What has your career path been since graduating from PW?

Joe Fredrick: I initially started out as a computer operator for a small 401(k) business. Since that time, I have served many roles from operations to Vice President at Merrill Lynch, leading a team of Client Service Representatives for their small market 401(k) business.

PW Class of 1982: Are you married? Do you have kids?

Joe: Yes, I am married. I was married to Kim Coletta for 17 years, and we have two wonderful children, Erika and Joey.  I have been married to Kara Goldstein for the last 17 years, and we have a beautiful, awesome daughter, Ava.  I am also a Pop-Pop to five loving grandchildren, and number six is on his way.

PW Class of 1982: What did you dream of becoming in high school?

Joe: I don’t recall ever thinking about what field I’d like to pursue after high school. I was always living in the moment and not thinking about the future.

PW Class of 1982: Did you attend college? If so, where did you go?

Joe:  I did not attend college, although I made several payments for my son to attend and graduate from West Virginia. I feel like a Mountaineer, and I love it.

PW Class of 1982: What advice would you give to your high school self?

Joe: This one is easy, and it’s one I would pass along to any child. If I could do it again, I would have taken a drama class. It is the one class that develops many life skills, from building self-confidence and team collaboration to developing non-verbal and verbal presentation skills.

PW Class of 1982: What advice do you have for others about creating your best life?

Joe: Practicing gratitude and being compassionate and kind to others are guiding principles that allow me to sleep well at night.

PW Class of 1982: What would you like to say to all of your classmates today?

Joe: I am grateful for the memories and friendships I made during my school years.
