August 2024: Classmate Ho Chin, who operates a fractional CFO company serving private companies that are backed by outside investors, says: “Enjoy the journey and not push off the enjoyment life can bring until xxx is achieved. I have come to realize that roses do have a wonderful scent.”

PW Classmates: What do you do now for work?

Ho Chin: I operate a fractional CFO company serving private companies that are backed by outside investors. In that capacity, I get to help those companies mature financially and operationally.

PW Classmates: What has your career path been since graduating from PW?

Ho: I started my career with a Fortune 50 company, where I got to learn the operational side of the business while working in various Accounting / Finance capacities. After a while, I saw many of my classmates and colleagues jump into this thing called “internet.”  Being the follower that I am, I jumped in and got to understand what it was all about. The company I joined was DoubleClick which was much smaller than the companies I had worked for previously, but it was very nimble and was full of extremely bright individuals.  It was during that time, I got to really appreciate scaling a small company into something big. Once DoubleClick sold, I sought after and managed the Finance and Administrative functions at various private companies, until I opened my current venture.

PW Classmates: Tell us about your family.

Ho: I have two amazing boys – Alex and Zach. Alex has always enjoyed serving others in various capacities.  One of the things he treasured was to volunteer at our town’s fire department while attending school.  He has since decided to pursue his career as a full-time first responder and just celebrated 5 years with the Arlington, VA, Fire Department. Zach attended James Madison University. He is currently fulfilling his dream of becoming a content creator/influencer surrounding the automobile industry.

PW Classmates: What did you dream of becoming in high school?

Ho: Like others, I’m not sure I had a good grasp of what I wanted to do when I grew up. When I graduated high school, I wanted to major in Accounting and potentially prepare taxes for small businesses.  I’m glad I didn’t go into taxes as I’m sure I would have gotten clients into a lot of hot water.

PW Classmates: Where did you go to college?

Ho: I graduated from Penn State with an Accounting degree and then obtained my MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.

PW Classmates: What advice would you give to your high school self?

Ho: Not to worry so much as all will turn out okay. The time to take chances is when you are young. Even if things don’t work out, there will still be  plenty of time to right the ship.   The quote I would mention to my younger self is “Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

PW Classmates: What advice do you have for others about creating your best life?

Ho: Enjoy the journey and not push off the enjoyment life can bring until xxx is achieved. I have come to realize that roses do have a wonderful scent.

PW Classmates: What would you like to say to all of your classmates today?

Ho: I hope everyone is doing well and is living as they did in their younger days. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone at the next reunion!
