Leveraging AI Technologies, ChatGPT, Esports, AR/VR, MR, and Other Emerging Technologies to Enhance Student Success

Presenters: Farah Bennani, Northampton Community College, and Robbie Melton, Tennessee State University

AI Technologies, ChatGPT, Esports, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed realities (MR), Blockchain, the Internet of Everything (IoE), and other emerging technologies are not only revolutionizing various industries such as healthcare, gaming, and entertainment but are also changing the landscape of higher education. These technologies provide unique opportunities for engaging students and creating personalized learning experiences that enhance their success. This workshop aims to explore how these emerging technologies can be leveraged to improve student success in higher education.

Esports is a rapidly growing industry that provides opportunities for students to develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. AR, VR, and MR can create immersive and interactive learning experiences, allowing students to explore complex concepts in a way that traditional methods cannot match.

Integrating these emerging technologies in higher education can transform the educational experience, providing immersive and interactive learning opportunities that engage students and enhance their understanding of complex concepts. By leveraging these technologies, we can create personalized learning experiences tailored to individual students’ needs and abilities.

Instructional Design for Learner Engagement: Getting to the Design Behind the Design

Presenter: Linda Lee, Motivation Matters Tutoring & Coaching, and Daphne Figueroa, Motivation Matters Tutoring & Coaching

Are you getting the course success â?? including numerical outcomes — that you want? Trained or not, designing distance learning courses is a challenge â?? one that too often falls short of our visions and the learners’ expectations. This interactive workshop has a unique focus that can change that! Instead of shaping content, we’ll look closely at how to design a learner experience that leads to real and lasting change.

We’ll look at how learning happens, the necessary cognitive and affective aspects, as well as tools to individualize your instruction as needed. This content is a new perspective on instructional design. It’s about the medium of learning â?? the ‘what’ to think about behind the design of your instruction.

This approach results in greater student persistence. But more importantly, it opens the way for meaningful learning and growth in your students. And because we practice what we preach, you’ll leave this interactive workshop with more than insights and ideas. You’ll have draft tools for designing your own engaging curriculum. And you’ll see new ways that you can be that teacher-trainer-coach who empowers real change!
