June 18, 2023: Words create perception

And perception dominates reality. Take the word survivor. To survive something means you won right? Well yes, and no. You may have come out on top, but this word instantly brings feelings of having to fight, do battle, and struggle. It brings forward thoughts of hardship, difficulty, and perhaps even abuse. It connotates someone who barely made it through. Now this may be the case, but look at this.

What if you changed Survivor into Victor? Close your eyes and say the word survivor to yourself. Notice how that feels. Open your eyes, and close them and now say the word victor, and notice how that feels in your body. Different? Light? A sense of pride? Accomplishment? Confidence? What do you feel right now when you see yourself as a Victor rather than simply a Survivor?

Language is so important because it creates emotion. And since our emotions (how we feel) are the attraction point in our lives, they can really make a difference in what shows up for us.
